The season for outdoor pools - Jason Beirne's latest blog
Some of the earliest indicators that the weather is changing are seeing the Cherry Blossom blooming, we gain an hour of sunlight, the air is filled with the smell of ‘extra-virgin’ grass cuttings from the first mow, and the warmth of the sun starts to increase, just enough to choose the sunny side of the road where we walk. After, what can feel like an eternity of darkness, we welcome back the glory of spring with open arms, like a lifelong friend returning from adventures further afield.
Our appreciation for spring and summer on this Island comes with a little apprehension – the fear that the glow of summer could be pulled from beneath our feet all too soon – so we do not take it for granted!
In fact, I remember not so long back – on Halloween – experiencing near heat wave temperature, so the potential for seven months of warmth in this country is achievable and that’s why we, here at LSPC, work hard to meet the demand of summer lovers by offering a variety of outdoor swimming pools. A straight forward luxury outdoor pool can be built in just 14 weeks!
I briefly touched on an outdoor pool in the Home Counties in my last post. This has really begun to take shape now the project has sprung from paper to garden. This particular project has a lit fountain that has been incorporated into a feature wall; giving an extra dimension to the pool, that of leisure and ornament which will undoubtedly prove to be tranquil and peaceful.
A style of pool that is very popular among swimmers are simple, single lane, lap pools, and with the advent of very efficient and economical heat pumps (such as the Heatstar Aquarius), the option of having an outdoor lap pool for all-year-round use is becoming more of a reality.
Certain building materials and products have come to market, after being extensively researched and developed, which allow a whole new approach and flexibility to pool design. Designs such as the bowl style pools of the 60s and 70s are enjoying a renaissance due to the high quality of the finishes which have surfaced recently. This is something we are eager to pursue; not only because it allows us to offer a classic with a modern twist, but because the footprint of excavation needed for the pool shell is far less, so the overall cost of the pool is lower, without compromising design excellence or workmanship.
It’s also great to see that garden designers are incorporating Chimeneas, fire pits, barbecues, kitchen and social areas to evolve and enhance outdoor leisure and pool spaces.
Vive the British summer!
