30 Years of Growth for London Swimming Pool Company

London Swimming Pool Company (LSPC) is celebrating its 30th anniversary having started as a one-man home-based business all those years ago by Tony Line.

Today, LSPC is London’s premier swimming pool company with 25 employees operating out of offices in New Malden, designing, building, refurbishing and servicing pools in multi-million pound London homes.  It now also undertakes large-scale commercial pool installations and refurbishment projects.  The company has won over 36 industry awards, including Pool Contractor of the year three times, affirming the quality of its offering.

Tony Line had a clear vision of LSPC becoming a market leader in the luxury sector and drove the business in that direction from the outset.  Major growth spurts came on the back of exhibiting at a pool show at Alexander Palace in the late 1990s during a deep recession, when LSPC won a prestigious contract with an overseas royal family.  This set off a domino of referrals in the same echelon. The second was during the recent recession with significant growth from 2010 onwards.  Tony has always believed that recessions can create opportunity.

Managing Director Jamie Smith said, “I am continuing the successful blueprint started by Tony, with a firm eye on growing the business at the super luxury end of the market.  The luxury sector includes a sizeable percentage of overseas investors and it has remained resistant to economic vagaries.  Since inception, the business has grown exponentially and during the recession we did the opposite to the broader economy, growing as much as 30% in some years.”

Key milestones mark LSPC’s development: winning gold awards for outstanding pool design and build and promoting these achievements to client markets; segmenting the group’s business into dedicated Contracting and Servicing operations led by passionate people; hiring specialist professionals to lead on design and costing – these strategic moves have ensured the company’s longevity and enables the company to manage project costs to the benefit of clients and the business.

Jamie who is Chairman of SPATA South-East region concluded, “The brand identity and marketing of any business is a key factor in how it is perceived and we have undergone a major re-branding and created our striking new website which is more representative of where the business is going in the future.”

Moving Floor Pool Stars in TV Show on HGTV, Dallas

HGTV, a North-American TV channel specialising in home and property shows, featured one of LSPC’s moving floor pools in the programme Cool Pools which was aired in February 2013.

The film crew spent a full day shooting and the producer conducted in-depth interviews with an LSPC director and the client (a property developer).

The genius of a moving pool floor was captured on film by a combination of diving and lap swimming by some gorgeous young things with the floor lowered and of salsa dancing taking place on top of the floor in the raised position whilst Latin-American tunes filled the subterranean leisure area. This type of versatile yet luxurious multi-purpose exercise and entertainment area is increasingly popular in London where building extensions may often only be possible within the footprint of the property below ground.

What a Night! Supporting Paul Strank Roofing’s Charity Gala Dinner

On 15 September the LSPC team attended Paul Strank Roofing's Annual Charity Gala Dinner at a private club in Wandsworth. The event raised over £50,000 in aid of OneLife UK and Shooting Star Chase which help sick and disadvantaged youngsters in South-West London.

Once Councillor Stephen Alambritis, leader of Merton Council, had welcomed guests, comedian Tim Vine entertained with great gags followed by Beverley Knight MBE singing classic tracks which got everyone dancing. Other celebrities and dignitaries whose presence and support made the occasion so special included patron and actress Brooke Kinsella MBE, Dragon Den's Theo Paphitis, Coronation Street's Ryan Thomas, Emmerdale's Adam Thomas, Sally and Stephen Hammond MP and the Mayor of Merton, Councillor David Williams. To end the evening in an unforgettable way, the squad from AFC Wimbledon gave a rather brave, and in the end, bare performance of the Full Monty!

LSPC Wheelies Make it to Brighton to Help the British Heart Foundation

The LSPC Wheelies made it to Brighton in one piece and were fortunate enough to suffer only a few sore muscles and bit of sun and windburn.

It was a tough but thrilling ride with steep down-hills and many sharp turns and a number of tiring walks pushing the bikes up narrow country lanes.

When energy levels were running low the cheers from bystanders and the thought of colleagues waiting at the finishing line with a well-deserved drink kept the team going.  And when the rain and hail poured down, it was actually quite refreshing.  A couple in the team completed the 54 miles in the rather quick time of 3 hours and 40 minutes and the rest trickled in over the next three hours.   Click here to learn more about the work of the BHF.

Underwater Art Photography Exhibition – Sunday Times Spectrum Supplement

LSPC was approached by photographers Sophie Lewis and Emma Critchley to arrange the use of a pool for a setting of The Fear of Falling – a series of timeless, life-size underwater photo portraits that invite new ways to consider the profound experience of submergence.

Exploring our changing relationship of the present moment whilst immersed, the subject moves away from the ethereal and floaty imagery usually associated with water and offers a more grounded and weighted sense of being.  With a gentle nod towards the Industrial Revolution and production processes surrounding the period, the portraits pose the question; ‘could the shifts in consciousness whilst immersed be akin to those experienced centuries ago?’  The photographs were exhibited at Fulham Palace Gallery in London as part of the Terry Neill award and at The Photographers Gallery in London.

Film and Photo Shoot with Olympic Swimmer Mark Foster in Aid of Fresh2o

One of LSPC’s prestigious clients kindly allowed a charity and TV shoot to take place at its moving floor swimming pool.  Photographer Candice devised a dramatic and impactful series of images using well-known icons with global presence. The images were designed to raise awareness of fresh2o and are the face behind a fundraising effort to establish international projects for the provision of clean drinking water and sanitation to the world.

Funds raised through the fresh2o campaign are channelled into communities through partner organisations, providing expertise in the field of fresh water supply and sanitation. Olympic swimmer and star of Strictly Come Dancing, Mark Foster, took part in the photo shoot with Candice for fresh2o, which was also filmed by BBC2 for Super Agents which was aired in February 2009.

Mark said "It's a pleasure to be involved in a photo shoot for fresh2o; it's such a worthwhile cause. I have always taken water for granted, whether it's turning on a tap for a drink or swimming in a pool, it's very easy to forget that there are so many people who don't have that privilege and they really need our support."

As part of 200 other daring teams, one of LSPC’s engineers braved the 4,600 miles through Western Sahara to Mali in an old VW Golf worth £100.
