LSPC Team in High Spirits at Peaslake Mountain Bike Orienteering Fundraiser

They may not have been the fastest team among the 150 competitors this year, but by golly, the LSPC Contracting Team had fun completing the challenging course in the Peaslake Mountain Bike Orienteering (MTBO) event in the Surrey Hills on Sunday 2 October.

The MTBO raises money for Peaslake Village School in Surrey, a community school that is funded entirely through the endeavours of the school and local parents.

While not quite defending their position in previous MTBOs, the LSPC Team - Neil Dyer, Peter Hales and Paul Mitchell - would have come first if there was a prize for high jinks.

Neil said, “While we didn’t hit the same points as last year’s ride, it really was the most fun I've had on a ride in ages.

“Although conditions were muddy, the weather was perfect for riding.  Despite Peter having a few mechanical issues with his bike and the team getting lost on Leith Hill, we got in some good climbs; around 2,400 feet of climbing in total, and covered 21 miles in 3 hours and 1 minute, a minute over our target time so we were docked 10 points.  Paul tried to convince the timekeeper that the clock was wrong but he wasn’t having it!

“Paul was in high spirits and did laps around us on the demo e-bike.  And I must confess that we spent a fair bit of the ride chatting and stopping off for tea.  All things considered, our time wasn’t bad; we had a first rate day out in the Surrey Hills and helped to increase the coffers of Peaslake Village School – job done!”
