Back to the drawing board
Jason Beirne is now blogging as a new member of the design & build team, having transferred from London Swimming Pool Company's Servicing division.
Welcome to Jason's blog where he will share his experiences as he trains to become as swimming pool designer.
Playing a part in a team, working towards a shared goal, reaching targets and deadlines and producing a marvel – that’s the aim of the game; that’s the aim of a lot of games, so if it gives you a buzz in one discipline, would it be difficult to take those aspects and apply them to a different discipline?
After a great 18 months working with some of the most knowledgeable individuals, no doubt in the land, I’ve swapped my role as a service engineer in London Swimming Pool Company’s service department, to trainee project designer in the Design & Build department.
Since the beginning of September I’ve been attending Lambeth College; a melting pot of students who come from different trades and professions - who congregate for three hours a week to learn the ‘dark arts’ of technical drawing using a programme called Autocad.
Ever since joining London Swimming Pool Company, I’ve wanted to get involved in the process of working with clients to produce pools and spa that they have in their minds eye – to be part of a team that can create what the client envisages.
Looking through LSPC’s portfolio of pools, the level of excellence is a testament to what can be achieved and I wanted to be part of that. I let the management know from the outset that I aspired to become a pool designer.
To say I was excited when, in November, I learned that I had gained a traineeship, is an understatement! This will aid me in my studying and get me into the powerhouse that is the design studio, where amazing pools are designed to clients’ exacting requirements.
Whilst I loved servicing pools and seeing everything working in harmony and as efficiently as it should, I’m eager to develop my drawing skills, product knowledge, and help the team create more award winning gems.
We currently have a large number of projects going through both design and build processes, and a catalogue spanning over 20 years, from basement to rooftop, from a small domestic spa to a large commercial pool; not only for clients in London, but further afield in Europe.
Whether or not this new adventure is a difficult one, I look forward to keeping you up to date with the goings on from the drawing board every month.
