BSPF President Reflections

LSPC's Managing Director, Jamie Smith has been the President of the British Swimming Pool Federation (BSPF) for the past two years.  As Jamie comes to the end of his period in office; we asked him to reflect on his time as BSPF President.

A Weekend of Celebration for BSPF President, Jamie Smith, MD at London Swimming Pool Company

The BSPF President’s Weekend (aka the Pool & Hot Tub Industry Weekend) was held in the historic town of Windsor at The Christopher Hotel, opposite the world-famous and architecturally stunning Eton School.  The weekend was hosted by the reigning President, Jamie Smith, Managing Director at London Swimming Pool Company and his wife, Caroline.

LSPC MD Becomes BSPF President

Jamie Smith, Managing Director of London Swimming Pool Company (LSPC) has been appointed President of the British Swimming Pool Federation (BSPF). BSPF embraces bodies that represent the pool and spa industries, including BISHTA, SPATA, PIP and STA, the world’s largest swim teaching and lifesaving organisation. These bodies do excellent work in championing high standards and safety throughout their respective industries. BSPF is the unified voice of the pool and spa industry, engaging with government and other interested parties to keep the industry updated on forthcoming issues that affect the sector.

LSPC Pools Win 4 Gold Awards

London Swimming Pool Company has won four Gold Awards for pool design excellence in the 2019 UK Pool & Spa Awards!  The annual awards show cases the very best swimming pool and hot tub design and build projects. LSPC won Gold Awards for Outstanding Pool Design, Luxury Pool of the Year, Indoor Residential Pool of the Year and Outdoor Residential Pool of the Year.  Take a look at our winning pool designs.

Bumper Awards Night with 10 Awards!

Five swimming pools and spas designed and built by London Swimming Pool Company won a total of 10 awards in the 2018 UK Pool & Spa Awards.

New Head of Servicing for LSPC

London Swimming Pool Company has appointed Paul Davis as Head of Servicing.  Paul is responsible for all aspects of customer service and customer relations, ensuring that our engineers who service clients' indoor and outdoor pools and spas provide first class service whether that’s regular or additional servicing.

Launch of Pool Design Hub for Architects, Designers and Main Contractors

London Swimming Pool Company has collaborated with leading manufacturers and suppliers of pool products and equipment to create a pool Design Hub which makes it easier for architects, and interior designers involved in luxury pool projects to access key information from a single source.  Professionals can access the Design Hub in seconds by following this link. Another CHAS Accreditation for LSPC

LSPC has passed its latest CHAS Accreditation with flying colours, demonstrating its commitment to health and safety.  CHAS assesses the health and safety competence of organisations.  It verifies that companies not only have a health and safety policy statement but that the policy is fully implemented throughout the business and that practices are to an acceptable standard for private and public sector buyers and customers.

Pool Designer Rides London-Surrey for Macmillan Cancer Support

On Sunday 30 July one of our pool designers, Jason Beirne, will be taking part in the RideLondon-Surrey bike ride for Macmillan Cancer Support.  Inspired by London's 2012 Olympic road race, the 100-mile RideLondon–Surrey route takes riders past iconic landmarks and up renowned climbs.

LSPC MD Appointed Director of National Leisure

London Swimming Pool Company's Managing Director, Jamie Smith has been appointed Director of National Leisure.  With over 28 years’ experience in the industry, Jamie will bring a wealth of skills and knowledge to National Leisure, which is made up of professional pool companies and operates as a collective purchasing and business support network.  Jamie’s new role will involve assisting with policy-making, offering a guiding hand in the running of the organisation and ensuring that members are well looked after.

Designing a Future in Luxury Pools - Trainee Designer Qualifies

Trainee pool designer, Jason Beirne, is the proud owner of a City & Guilds Level 3 Award in 3D Computer Aided Design from Guildford College.  This gives him professional qualifications alongside his apprenticeship in pool design at London Swimming Pool Company (LSPC).

LSPC Team in High Spirits at Peaslake Mountain Bike Orienteering Fundraiser

They may not have been the fastest team among the 150 competitors this year, but by golly, the LSPC Contracting Team had fun completing the challenging course in the Peaslake Mountain Bike Orienteering (MTBO) event in the Surrey Hills on Sunday 2 October.

The Boys are Wheelie off Again!

When it comes to a cycling challenge you won’t find a more passionate team than the lads in the Contracting division at London Swimming Pool Company – eight are keen cyclists and have clocked up thousands of miles cycling for fun and charity.  They even take to their bikes to visit clients. Peter Hales, Neil Dyer and Ryan Henry (left to right) competed in a mountain bike orienteering (MTBO) challenge, raising funds through their participation fees for Peaslake Village School in Surrey.  Peaslake is unique because it operates as a free school, yet receives no government or other official support; it relies entirely on fundraising by the school and parents.

Paul Strank Roofing Hosted Charity Gala Fundraiser in Aid of Two Local Children’s Charities and Raised a Massive £64,677.64!

London Swimming Pool Company (LSPC) is proud to support the spectacular Paul Strank Roofing Charity Gala, an annual event which raises vital funds for two local children’s charities – Shooting Star CHASE and OneLife UK – which benefit communities in Merton and South London.   LSPC is one of many programme advertisers and also attends the Gala to take part in all the fun and fundraising.

Moving Floor Pool Stars in TV Show on HGTV, Dallas

HGTV, a North-American TV channel specialising in home and property shows, featured one of LSPC’s moving floor pools in the programme Cool Pools which was aired in February 2013.

What a Night! Supporting Paul Strank Roofing’s Charity Gala Dinner

On 15 September the LSPC team attended Paul Strank Roofing's Annual Charity Gala Dinner at a private club in Wandsworth. The event raised over £50,000 in aid of OneLife UK and Shooting Star Chase which help sick and disadvantaged youngsters in South-West London.

Justine Greening MP Makes a Splash at Opening of Granard School Pool

Vertical Rush in Aid of Shelter

Neil Dyer and Peter Hales from our Design & Construction department joined 1,200 people rushing up the 920 steps on the fire escape of Tower 42, formerly known as the Natwest Tower, in the City of London, in as little time as possible.

Three of our usually very clean shaven staff cultivated their facial hair during November in aid of Movember - the global charity spreading awareness about and helping raise funds for men's health, in particular the treatment of prostate cancer.

Donate a Coat to the Salvation Army

ITV Daybreak ran an initiative in conjunction with the Salvation Army between 21-25 November called Donate a Coat which asked people to dig out a coat that hardly ever gets worn and give it to someone who needs it.  Our staff collected 10 coats to help spread the warmth amongst families in need, the elderly and homeless people.

Sponsorship of Wimbledon Village Fair Raised Funds for Wimbledon Guild for Social Welfare

For the sixth year running, LSPC combined a lovely day on Wimbledon Common with visitors to the Tennis Championships with raising funds for the valuable work undertaken by the Wimbledon Guild for the elderly and vulnerable in the community.  This year LSPC sponsored the Fun Dog Show alongside architects Holden Harper and Stone Lion Veterinary Hospital.  The LSPC team enjoyed the company of clients and prospects at its gazebo, not forgetting the light canine entertainment. Handford Wines in South Kensington donated a Magnum of Rose Champagne as a raffle prize which further added to the proceeds for the charity.

The LSPC Wheelies made it to Brighton in one piece and were fortunate enough to suffer only a few sore muscles and bit of sun and windburn.

Splash for Cash – Sponsored 10km Swim for BBC Children in Need

Five of the LSPC team donned their cozzies and Pudsey bandanas and went that extra mile, or in this case, swam 10km, in 1.5 hours in Granard School’s pool which was built by LSPC.  The swim supported the invaluable work of Children in Need and the team raised £1,305 thanks to donations from family and friends, clients and associates

Making a splash with the Wimbledon Esporta aquarobics team has become an annual fund raiser in aid of the social welfare work that the Wimbledon Guild carries out in the Wimbledon area.

Underwater Art Photography Exhibition – Sunday Times Spectrum Supplement

LSPC was approached by photographers Sophie Lewis and Emma Critchley to arrange the use of a pool for a setting of The Fear of Falling – a series of timeless, life-size underwater photo portraits that invite new ways to consider the profound experience of submergence.

Film and Photo Shoot with Olympic Swimmer Mark Foster in Aid of Fresh2o

One of LSPC’s prestigious clients kindly allowed a charity and TV shoot to take place at its moving floor swimming pool.  Photographer Candice devised a dramatic and impactful series of images using well-known icons with global presence. The images were designed to raise awareness of fresh2o and are the face behind a fundraising effort to establish international projects for the provision of clean drinking water and sanitation to the world.

We were delighted to support the work and profile of this charity by contributing £20,000 worth of labour and materials when building the pool in the Cancer Research UK Garden at the Chelsea Flower Show 2006 in association with the TV presenter and garden designer Andy Sturgeon. We were even more pleased when the project was given a Gold award.
